The Charleston Classic bracket for Auburn basketball has been announced. The Tigers will open the tournament against Indiana State on Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. It will be the first meeting between the schools. The teams will get paired up with the winner/loser of Temple vs. Old Dominion on Nov. 17 with a third-round game set for Nov. 19 against a team on the opposite side of the bracket (Clemson, Dayton, Hofstra or Ohio). Clemson faces Ohio and Dayton squares off against Hofstra to round out the first-round contests.

Auburn's only previous appearance in the tournament came in 2012. The Tigers went 1-3 in that stretch.

- On the football front, freshman offensive tackle Calvin Ashley is expected to be ready for the start of preseason practices after undergoing a medical procedure. According to a person familiar with the situation, Ashley had a procedure on one of his eyes. He posted a picture of his hand in a hospital bed on Snapchat in recent days. Ashley, a five-star offensive tackle, is expected to compete with Darius James for a starting spot at left tackle when practices start next Monday.

Auburn football gained commitment No. 11 for 2018 today. Jamien Sherwood, a three-star safety from Jensen Beach, Fla., quietly pledged to the Tigers last Saturday during the program's recruit cookout, then made his decision official today in an announcement on TCpalm.com. He also considered other teams such as Florida and Michigan. "There was something about Auburn that just stuck out to me," he said.

Sherwood is Auburn's second commitment this week, as four-star linebacker Michael Harris from Tucker (Ga.) pledged to the program yesterday. The Tigers now stand at No. 30 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings. With the 6-feet-2, 195-pound Sherwood on board, Auburn has two safeties committed (Sherwood and Quindarious Monday) and has two others committed who could play there - athlete Kolbi Fuqua and star/safety Josh Marsh.

The Tigers have targeted Sherwood since the spring, and that's paid dividends for secondary coach Greg Brown, who is Sherwood's area recruiter as well as position coach. Sherwood went on to commend Brown's demeanor.

"Coach Greg is a great guy," he said. "Very funny. He has coached a lot of teams and coached in the NFL. Me learning under him and him knowing so many coaches in the NFL will help me." Sherwood is Auburn's second commitment from Florida, joining all-purpose back Shaun Shivers from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep, who also attended the cookout in Auburn last Saturday.

Sherwood's visit to The Plains last weekend was his third this year. That's what drew him in. He will be a December graduate. Although he could possibly visit other programs, he said that that's currently the furthest thing from his mind. "It feels great to be committed to Auburn," he stated. "It's something I've worked for. I'm just happy I don't have to worry about as many coaches texting me anymore. I feel like I've got a weight off my back."

In other news....

- The SEC Network announced its start times for game telecasts on the network for the first three Saturdays of the college football season. However, just for the sake of cutting to the chase, I'll only write about Auburn's kickoff times.

Saturday, Sept. 2nd: Auburn vs. Georgia Southern: 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.

Saturday, Sept. 16th: Auburn vs. Mercer: 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT on the SEC Network Alternate channel.

Yes, I know we play at Clemson in Week 2, but no kickoff time was shown on that list of games. That would obviously be a sign that it will air on another network. We'll just have to wait and see. While on the topic of schedules, here's another note: If you watched Auburn's takeover schedule on the SEC Network last Thursday, I'd be willing to bet that you were every bit as disappointed as I was when the "Prayer at Jordan-Hare" game against Georgia from 2013 was interrupted to report Hugh Freeze's resignation as head coach of Ole Miss. Well, never fear, folks: An article I read today confirmed that the game will be replayed on said network Friday, August 4th at noon ET/11 a.m. CT. Set your DVRs, and keep your fingers crossed that we'll be able to enjoy the game free of interruption this time.

Michael Harris has broken the silence.

Harris, a 4-star linebacker from Tucker (Ga.), officially announced his commitment to Auburn today, just a day after closing out an overnight visit to The Plains. Three weeks prior, he had privately informed the coaching staff that he wanted to be a Tiger.

"It's a great environment," Harris said. "And it's a nice place to be." He has been one of the Tigers' biggest and most pivotal targets for some time now. Harris had flirted with both Ohio State and Georgia during his recruitment, but ultimately settled on Auburn. He is the 10th commitment for the Tigers, who climbed from No. 44 to No. 38 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings. The Tigers still have about 13 or 14 vacant spots to fill.

A large factor in Harris' decision was his relationship with Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams. Harris has emphasized time and time again that he is closer to Williams than any coach in the nation. "He's a great guy with a lot of energy," Harris stated. "He recruited me hard. He didn't just recruit me, he wanted to know me." The 6-feet-2, 213-pound Harris ranks as the No. 11 inside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 27 recruit in the state of Georgia.

Harris attended both of Auburn's recent recruiting events - Big Cat Weekend on June 3 and the Auburn cookout this past weekend.

In other news....

- Bad news on the basketball front. The Tigers will be without sophomore center Austin Wiley when they travel to Italy next month. Head coach Bruce Pearl announced today that Wiley will miss four to six weeks due to a stress fracture in his left leg. However, the injury won't require surgery.

Wiley won a bronze medal playing for USA Basketball's U19 team this summer. The injury occurred in the quarterfinal game against Germany on July 7th. Wiley was one of only seven players to average a double-double in the tournament (10.3 points and 10.9 rebounds).

"You know how tough and committed a young man is when he plays through the pain of a stress fracture," Pearl said. "He was receiving treatment while in Egypt, but had no way of knowing the extent of his injury. Doctors say it is in a good spot for healing, and he will be fine."

Auburn football gained not one, but two commitments on Friday night. Now, I finally have a chance to write about both of them.

1. Four-star 2019 receiver George Pickens of Hoover (Ala.) pledged to the Tigers. Pickens is Auburn's first commitment for 2019, and ranks as the No. 4 recruit in the state of Alabama for 2019 in the 247Sports Composite. He announced his decision at the end of Friday's unofficial visit to The Plains.

"I'm very glad that I just committed to Auburn," Pickens stated. "Auburn is a great campus and I feel real good about the school I chose. And I know some of the coaches and players around here." Pickens, a teammate of 2018 Auburn receiver commit Shedrick Jackson, clinched his Auburn offer with an auspicious camp showing last month.

Pickens has developed a bond with Auburn receivers coach Kodi Burns - and with others in the program. His older brother, Chris Humes, played defensive back at Arkansas State - and was once coached by Gus Malzahn. "I feel very comfortable around here," Pickens said. "I know literally everybody from my brother playing at Arkansas State." The 6-feet-5, 190-pound Pickens stands as the No. 19 receiver in the 247Sports Composite.

"Me and (Jackson) have a real close bond," he said. "It's going to be real fun down here." When asked what drew him in to the Tigers so easily, he responded, "I felt very comfortable with it. I came down here multiple times and I felt great about the school. That's what made me commit."

Auburn will most likely take only two receivers in the 2019 class.

2. Three-star defensive athlete Josh Marsh from Decatur (Ala.) also pledged to the Tigers on Friday. He earned an offer after a strong camp showing that afternoon, and that was all it took. "I went up there and talked to (Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn) and he said, 'We want to offer you a scholarship.'" Marsh remembered. "And I was like, 'OK, I want to commit.'  The 6-feet-1.5, 210-pound Marsh is Auburn's 9th commitment for the 2018 class, and garnered an 84 rating from 247Sports.

Marsh said that he never even anticipated an offer before Friday began. After announcing his decision, though, the feeling was surreal for him, as he called himself a lifelong Auburn fan. "I had prayed about it, but they hadn't said anything," Marsh said. "Really, there was no idea. I just knew I had to come down here and show out. ....Ever since I was 3, I was like, 'I want to come to Auburn, I want to come to Auburn.' It's like a dream come true."

Marsh ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash on Friday in Auburn. "I guess guarding people and being out in space would be one of my strengths," he stated. Marsh will be a star/safety in the collegiate ranks. Before Friday, it wasn't even clear if Marsh was on Auburn's cards. With his pledge, the Tigers rose from No. 44 to No. 42 in the recruiting team rankings.

Prior to Friday, Memphis and Colorado State were Marsh's leading schools. But now, things are different. When asked how it feels to be an Auburn Tiger, he responded, "It's kind of mind-blowing."

I wish both of these pledges nothing but the best for the future in their time on The Plains.

That's all for now. Until next time, God Bless, and WAR EAGLE!

A former Auburn football coach is returning to the game. Only this time, he won't be on the sideline, but in the broadcast booth instead.

ESPN announced today that Tommy Tuberville has been hired by the network to call games and to serve as an analyst. Upon confirming the news, ESPN's Lee Fitting released the following statement:

"Tommy has been a staple in college football for many years, having experienced nearly every situation as a head coach," said Fitting, ESPN's senior coordinating producer. "We want him to bring that experience to our telecast, informing fans on the dynamics of a head coach's thought process, not only in a given moment but leading up to and following that moment."

Tuberville served as head coach at Ole Miss from 1995-1998 before taking over for Auburn's program from 1999-2008. In that decade-long tenure, he posted an 85-40 record, including a 13-0 season in 2004. He also registered a school-record six consecutive Iron Bowl wins over arch-rival Alabama.

This upcoming gig won't be Tuberville's first experience in broadcasting. After resigning from Auburn, he worked as an analyst for Buster Sports and ESPN during the 2009 football season, discussing the SEC and the Top 25 on various television shows and podcasts. I'm quite confident that he'll do a wonderful job in giving his insights on the game in this new venture. You're gonna do great, Tubbs.

As a closing reminder, if you enjoy trips down memory lane, set your DVRs for Auburn's Takeover schedule on the SEC Network, which begins at midnight ET (11:00 p.m. CT). I posted the full schedule yesterday, and you can scroll down to yesterday's post to see it.

Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

I knew it would show up at some point, and sure enough, it did. Auburn's full SEC Network Takeover schedule has finally been unveiled. This time around, fans will be able to relive some of the program's biggest wins from the 2016-17 athletic season, as well as a few noteworthy football victories. The odyssey begins at midnight ET/11 p.m. CT on Thursday, July 20th.

Without further ado, here's the full slate of what fans will be able to enjoy:

- Midnight ET/11 p.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Missouri (2013 SEC Championship Game): In the highest combined scoring game in SEC history, Auburn put away upset-minded Missouri 59-42. Auburn running back Tre Mason stole the show, racking up a record 304 yards on 46 carries with four touchdowns. With the victory, the orange and blue punched a ticket to the final BCS National Championship Game.

- 2:30 a.m. ET/1:30 a.m. CT: Baseball: Auburn vs. Florida (2017): This is Game 3, in which the Tigers clinched a walk-off victory over the eventual national champions, giving them their first sweep over Florida in three decades.

- 4:30 a.m. ET/3:30 a.m. CT: Softball: Auburn vs. Mississippi State (2017): In Auburn's final home series of 2017, the Tigers beat State in dramatic fashion, smacking two homers in the bottom of the ninth - including a walk-off grand slam.

- 6:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. CT: Women's basketball: Auburn vs. Tennessee (2017):  The Tigers left the Big Orange feeling blue, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Vols in Auburn Arena. Janiah McKay set a career-high in points for Auburn.

- 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Alabama (1986): In its first year of the post-Bo Jackson era, Auburn upset the Tide 21-17 as Lawyer Tillman scored the winning TD on a reverse from seven yards out with 32 seconds to go. Incidentally, the play was actually designed for receiver Scott Bolton.

- 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT: Men's basketball: Auburn vs. Alabama (2017): The Tigers' Austin Wiley had a breakout performance in this one as Auburn beat the Tide by 20. They would pull off the sweep in Tuscaloosa a few weeks later.

- Noon ET/11:00 a.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Tennessee (2004 SEC Championship Game): Although Auburn was denied a chance at the national title, they offered plenty to cheer about in this 38-28 triumph over the Vols. Quarterback Jason Campbell led the way with three TD passes as the Tigers celebrated their first conference crown in 15 years.

- 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT: Soccer: Auburn vs. Florida (2017): The Tigers drained The Swamp in this one with a 3-1 win over the top-seeded Gators, pocketing their first trip to the Elite Eight in school history in the process.

- 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Alabama (2013): The "Kick Six." The play that many consider the single greatest ending in college football history. Fourth-ranked Auburn upset the top-ranked Tide 34-28 in breathtaking fashion.

- 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT: "This is Auburn" (documentary).

- 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Georgia (2013): Two weeks before the "Kick Six", there was the "Prayer at Jordan-Hare." On 4th-and-18 from the Tiger 27, QB Nick Marshall heaved up a prayer that was deflected by two Georgia defenders......right into the arms of Ricardo Louis for an unfathomable score to lift the Tigers over the Bulldogs, 43-38.

- 9:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. CT: "This is Auburn." (documentary)

- 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT: Football: Auburn vs. Oregon (2011 BCS National Championship Game): The Tigers ended a 53-year wait for all the marbles, knocking off the Ducks 22-19 on a 19-yard Wes Byrum field goal as time expired. This game was low on points, but quite high on excitement.

Set your DVRs accordingly, folks! I certainly will!

Although Auburn and Notre Dame share rich histories, but they've never faced off on the football field. However, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick recently suggested that that may change. In a recent Q&A session with Laken Litman of the Indianapolis Star, Swarbrick stated that he is interested in scheduling both Auburn and Alabama in the future. He also noted that he has close ties with Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs.

"It was interesting to see the list of teams we've never played (from the SEC, which include Auburn, Mississippi State and Kentucky)," Swarbrick told Litman. I frankly didn't know it. I have a great relationship with the Auburn athletic director (Jay Jacobs), and I'd love to figure out how to do that. There's something to be said for ticking off everyone on that list until you can say you've done it over the history of this program."

Three years ago, Jacobs brought up Notre Dame first when he listed potential opponents he'd like to see the Tigers square off against in the future. "I'd love to play Notre Dame, Michigan (or) Florida State," he stated, according to AL.com. "All those teams that are traditionally good teams."

With 874 all-time victories, Notre Dame stands as the winningest college football team that has never played Auburn. Although the Fighting Irish are officially an independent program, they would count as a Power 5 school in the SEC's current scheduling mandate. The Tigers and every other squad in the league must schedule a power-conference opponent each season.

Auburn is still without a power opponent for the 2020 campaign. On the other hand, Notre Dame's slate for that season is nearly full, and it includes a match against Arkansas. As for the Tigers, their next schedule without a Power 5 opponent is in 2025. They will face Clemson in 2017, Washington in 2018, Oregon in 2019, Penn State in 2021 and 2022, and California in 2023 and 2024.

While it's highly doubtful that a battle with Notre Dame will ever become an annual rivalry like Georgia or Alabama, this would still be very interesting to see. (Just to insert a personal note: Regarding Jay Jacobs' comments above, we have played Michigan at least twice before (winning the 1984 Sugar Bowl 9-7, and losing the 2001 Citrus Bowl 31-28) and Florida State several times before, with the most recent, of course, coming on a heartbreaking 34-31 loss in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game).

Friday, July 14th, 2017

With SEC Media Days 2017 officially in the books, I'll just briefly touch on what I think are the most crucial points that Gus Malzahn noted about this year's squad.

- The Tigers have 15 returning starters this season; eight on offense, seven on defense.

- Malzahn made it clear that Jarrett Stidham has not locked up the starting quarterback job. Returning starter Sean White has "a real chance" to start. Whether Gus was merely trying to ward off any complacency Jarrett may have developed, or Sean has been performing superbly since spring practice began (as well as during summer camp), it's very apparent that this spot is still very much up for grabs. Only time will tell the definitive answer, although Gus recently emphasized that he wants to name the starter earlier than he did last year.

- In Malzahn's mind, perhaps the biggest question mark lies in the starting punting duties. He said that Ian Shannon is competing with Daniel Carlson. Carlson handled both place-kicking and punting as a freshman in 2014, so we'll just have to see if the same holds true this year.

- Two players have been granted medical redshirts, and thereby, will have an extra year of eligibility: Running back Malik Miller and defensive lineman Paul James III. Miller will be a redshirt freshman this fall while James will be a fourth-year junior eligible to play in 2017 and 2018.

Miller suffered a knee injury in a 58-7 blowout of ULM last season. The true freshman played in three games in 2016, rushing 16 times for 69 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers held the Madison Academy alum out the remainder of the season after he underwent surgery on his left knee.

James, a junior college transfer out of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, played in three games last season, registering three tackles (one for a loss). He battled back from the knee injury to win the defensive MVP award at this year's A-Day game, recording three tackles for loss and a sack. He enrolled early in 2016, but missed extended time last spring due to an ankle injury.

Auburn football landed a big commitment last night.

Quindarious Monday, a four-star safety from Atlanta (Ga.) Carver, verbally pledged to the Tigers. Monday first informed Cory Fravel of 247Sports of his decision, then confirmed the news on Twitter. Monday is ranked as the No. 9 athlete in the 247Sports Composite.

He picked Auburn over Clemson and gave his commitment during a visit to the Plains yesterday. He had been leaning towards Clemson in recent weeks, so this news may be surprising to many. Monday is the eighth commitment for Auburn, which started the day with the No. 56 recruiting class in the nation. The Tigers climbed to No. 43, and fans shouldn't be surprised to see them gain more commitments this month.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Monday is the No. 221 overall recruit in the country. Since Auburn's secondary is mostly thin, this pickup should do them a huge favor. Clemson recently offered Monday a scholarship and had made an unwavering effort to get him. His trip to Auburn obviously resulted in a change of heart.

Secondary coach Greg Brown, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, linebackers coach Travis Williams, defensive line coach Rodney Garner and head coach Gus Malzahn were all active in Monday's recruitment. Monday is Auburn's first safety commitment in the class of 2018. However, athlete commit Kolbi Fuqua of Cordova (Ala.) is a receiver/safety.

While on the topic of football, don't forget that Coach Malzahn will make his appearance at SEC Media Days tomorrow, as will kicker Daniel Carlson, safety Tray Matthews and offensive lineman Braden Smith. You can watch the event on the SEC Network.

This isn't exactly Auburn-related news, but I still find it significant enough to post. Former Auburn (and current Carolina Panthers') quarterback Cam Newton will appear tonight as one of the celebrity guest stars on ABC's revival of The $100,000 Pyramid. The show debuted last summer as part of a weekly prime-time game show lineup on said network, and is hosted by Michael Strahan. This show is an hour long, with two consecutive half-hour shows. Cam will appear in the first half hour, and face off against Brandon Marshall of the New York Giants.

Will Cam and his contestant partner beat their competition and make it to the Winner's Circle for a chance at a top prize of $100,000? Tune in to ABC tonight at 10 p.m. ET (9 p.m. CT). Set your DVR if need be! As a lifelong game show buff, I, for one, am certainly looking forward to this! Good luck, Cam! We're all rooting for you!

Isn't it thrilling as heck knowing that July is the last month of the year without football? Well, here's another sign that the season is drawing closer: ESPN announced today that the SEC Network has set its third annual Takeover schedule. The event will kick off with Kentucky on July 17 and close out with LSU on July 30. Each day during that two-week period, each of the 14 SEC teams will be given 24 hours of coverage ranging from game footage in all sports to documentaries, as well as school and ESPN-created content specific to each school.

Where does Auburn fall, you may ask? That will be on July 20th. What will be shown? Only time will tell. Once I find out, though, you can be sure I'll post about it.

In other news....

- On the basketball front, Auburn sophomore Austin Wiley racked up 19 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes of play to lead the USA to an 81-59 win over Germany this afternoon in the FIBA World Cup. Wiley also had a pair of put-backs off his five offensive rebounds. This victory allows the USA to play Canada in the semifinals. The Canadian U19 topped France 73-67 in an earlier quarterfinal.

A former Auburn defensive tackle is now a Green Bay Packer. NFL Trade Rumors reports that Montravius Adams has officially made the Packers' rookie class. Adams, a third-round pick, signed his rookie contract yesterday afternoon, making him the final member of the NFL Draft haul that the Packers latched onto to officially join the team.

According to Over the Cap, Adams' deal is for four years worth $3,144,776 total, including a signing bonus of $744,766. He was the last third-round pick that has yet to be signed. The former Auburn star was chosen as the No. 93 pick in April's draft.

In his college career, Adams registered 147 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. I'm confident that Montravius will play a crucial role in the Packers' defense. If it's meant to be, the team might even bring home a Super Bowl title while he's there. Only time will tell.

Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

I hope you all had a great 4th of July. I certainly did.

SEC Media Days is just around the corner. Word came out this afternoon that, for the first time since 2010, Auburn will not bring a skill position player on offense to the annual event. Kicker Daniel Carlson, safety Tray Matthews and offensive tackle Braden Smith will represent the Tigers next Thursday, July 13th at the Hyatt Regency Wynfrey in Hoover, Ala. Naturally, head coach Gus Malzahn will speak as well.

Auburn will be the last SEC team to speak at the event inside the main ballroom at the Wynfrey Hotel next Thursday. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. CT that day. All three players representing the Tigers at the event this year are seniors. Carlson is a two-time Lou Groza Award finalist and the only kicker among the 14 league teams chosen to attend media days this year. As you can imagine, I'm looking forward to what these players and Gus have to say.

In other news...

- Today is the late former Auburn linebacker Quentin Groves' 33rd birthday in Heaven. He left us much too soon last October 15th due to a fatal heart attack. He was one of the best linebackers to ever don the orange and blue. Godspeed, Quentin. We all miss you so much, but we know you're having a wonderful party with Jesus.

Former Auburn softball catcher Carlee Wallace is now a part of the Big 12.

The three-year starter for Auburn, who announced she would be transferring on June 14th, will close out her career at Baylor, she told AuburnUndercover yesterday. The news was first reported by AL.com. Wallace will be eligible to play immediately for the Bears. Baylor reached the College World Series in June while Auburn lost to eventual national champion Oklahoma in a super regional match.

Wallace hit .333 with seven home runs and 52 RBI last season. She helped guide the Tigers to the Women's College World Series in 2015 and 2016. I, like all other Auburn fans, wish her nothing but the best as she begins her stint at Baylor. Maybe the Bears will have another shot to play for all the marbles next season while she's on the field.
